Shri Krishna's relevance in this modern era

The first righteous person about whom saint Dayanand had talked about with reference to virtuous behaviour is lord Shri Krishna. He wrote – ‘Life of Shri Krishna is similar to any great soul. He is the greatest personality in Mahabharata. His qualities, work, nature and character is unmatchable.’

Rama and Krishna are two such great personalities born in this world, who can be called unmatchable. Rama was known as the person of highest qualities and character and Shri Krishna was known for his highest actions. Both were great persons. The mankind will continue to follow them and see them as role models for ages to come.

These two great personalities were also great foreseers. They fulfilled their dreams. Ordinary person cannot dream of doing great things. Lord Rama had united the nation from Mithila in the north to Lanka in the south and Krishna united the whole nation right from Dwarika in the west to Manipur in the east. They had strengthened the nation in such a way that it became undefeatable and even after four thousand years after the great war, Mahabharata no foreign ruler could disintegrate this land in spite of repeated fights.

The sages had sown the seed for the Rama’s dream, whereas Shri Krishna was fast in all movements. Rama’s life was managed by the policies of saints, their guidance and rules and therefore he was always obedient and disciplined. Lord Krishna was inspired by his inner voice at every moment of his life therefore his life was like a river flowing down a hill, which makes its way through difficult terrains and mountains and continues to flow ahead.

The philosophers call Rama as 12th incarnation and Krishna as 16th incarnation. Their purpose was not to give any rank. Rama be-longed to Surya family and according to sun zodiac the time moves within the 12 signs and hence he was addressed in the form of 12 arts. Krishna belonged to the moon family and the moon is supposed to have 16 arts starting from darker half and ending on brighter half. During Rama’s age, the time and situations were not so difficult and challenging when compared to the Krishna’s age. The time of Ramayana was also tied up to some limitations and in case of Krishna’s age, the society did not fear to break the rules and regulations.

Shri Krishna represented Indian culture, integrity and dutifulness. The principles of Mahabharata can be included in the category of nationality, which had the impression of Krishna’s rule. Saint Vyas has picturized only shri Krishna as a character, who never bends, yields, surrenders, cries, or repents and never bothers about loss or victory. But, he has such a confidence on his ability, qualities and efficiency that he advices Arjuna that in his plan, Bhishma, Dronacharya, Duryodhana, Karna and Dusshasana are already dead and you are just the medium to kill these people.

Vyas did not want to author just nay story, but he wanted to describe the truth present in man in every period (age) and the victory of truth on false. Most of his characters were filled with qualities of attachment and temptation. Therefore, there is no end to their pain and grief. In one way the whole society during Mahabharata time was suffering from fear and terror, but shri Krishna is above them, he is beyond this world.

All the people right from Yudhishtar to Dhritarashtra and Bhishma Pitamah break down but Krishna never loses. He manages the incidents without any attachment. Man should have this kind of non-attachment in order to overcome grief, and Krishna is the right personality. Therefore he is known as high individual, great personality and lord of people.

Shri Krishna says in Gita, "He removed Yog from old traditional meanings and gave it a new meaning." He challenged the social evils prevalent during his age, which show his revolutionary character. No other person of that age was capable of showing these qualities. He gave a new meaning to Yog. on the occasion of Janamashtami we all should try and follow his ideals, values, principles for the welfare of our country. Krishna and his qualities are relevant even today.

Are eggs good to health?

Eggs are one of nature's most perfectly balanced foods, containing all the protein, vitamins (except vitamin C) and minerals essential for good health.

Today's large egg contains only a moderate amount of fat, with about 5 grams in only the egg yolk, (1.5 grams saturated), 213 mg of cholesterol and 75 calories. Eggs can easily fit into your daily fat limit.

Eggs:

Do you know that eggs have little amount of nutritional value? They are totally deficient in carbohydrates. The eggs are full of poisonous and harmful elements. Egg is the cause of several serious diseases; the high cholesterol content increases the risk of heart disease. The hens eat sputum, phlegm, nose secretions, worms, germs and other such filthy things. The eggs are produced from these things. Can egg increase the mental and intellectual quality of a person?

The following facts prove that egg is very low, dirty and the biggest enemy of health when compared to other food products. Eggs have lowest amount of nutritional elements:

1. Protein : Dals 22-25%; Eggs 13.3%; Paneer 24.1%; Separata Milk powder 38%; Soybean 43.2%

2. Carbohydrates : Dals 56 - 60%; Eggs 0%; Soybean 22.9%; Paneer 6.3%; Separata milk Powder 15%;

3. Calorie : Dals 334-353; Eggs 173; Lobhia 327; Paneer 348; Milk powder 357

4. Calcium : Dals 0.13-0.20%; Eggs 0.06%; Soybean 0.24%; Paneer 0.79%;separata milk Powder 1.37%;

5. Iron : Dals 8.4-9.8%; Eggs 2.1%; Soybean 11.5%; Roasted gram 8.9%;

6. Phosphorous : Dals 0.25-0.37%; Eggs 0.22%; Roasted peanuts 0.44%; Paneer 0.52%; Separata milk powder 1.4%

7. Mineral salts : Dals 2.1-3.6%; Eggs 1.0%; Soybean 4.6%; Roasted peanuts2.3%; Paneer 4.2%; Separata milk powder 6.8%;%;

Eggs contain high amounts of cholesterol, which causes high blood pressure and kidney problems. Frying an egg increases its cholesterol level further. Heart specialist Dr. col. K.L.Chopda and Dr. K.K.Agarwal say that the yoke of egg contains 220 mg cholesterol, which is dangerous for the heart. Nobel prize winner Dr. Brown and Dr.Goldstin have proved that eggs contain high amount of cholesterol and hence increase the risk of heart attack.

DDT poison:

30 per cent of the eggs contain DDT poison. This causes cancer, this was discovered by Lorida, America's agricultural department.

Evidin:

The egg white contains Evidin, which causes eczema and paralysis.

Acid:

The eggs contain nitrogen and phosphoric acid, which produces acidic substances in the body, which makes the person diseased.

Infectious bacteria:

The upper layer of the egg contains 15000 micro holes. The infectious bacteria entering the egg through these pores - salmonella, shigola and Staphylococci. these bacteria are responsible for disease of the intestines, due to which thousands of Indians die every year. Several thousands of people in England became the victims of a poisonous epidemic only because of salmonella bacteria.

Egg generates kapha:

According to a German professor Egtur Burg, Egg is responsible for generating 51.83 per cent of phlegm, which imbalance the nutrition's in the body and become the abode of dieses.

Eggs are not easily digestible:

Bile and pancreatic juices of egg are ineffective on egg white. Therefore 30 to 50 per cent of egg is excreted without being digested. This is the view of Professor Akoda of England.

Decay of food in the stomach:

According to Dr. E.V. Mekkalam the eggs do not contain carbohydrates and the amount of calcium is also very low, hence it decays in the stomach.

Eggs contain very less amount of vitamins: eggs contain very little quantity of iron, magnesium and vitamins. Especially vitamin B complex and vitamin C.

Egg causes diseases in any form:

Prof of microbiology in the university college of medicine, Dr. V.Talwad says that egg causes different types of disease whether eaten raw or in any other form.

Hens have lot of diseases:

The hens are carriers of bacteria and germs responsible for diseases like T.B and infect the persons eating it. (Dr. Robert Grass)

Hens are subjected to torture:

The following methods of tortures are applied on hens in order to get more and faster production of eggs:

- The hens are given injections of special hormones for egg formulation.

- The male chickens are made to sit under the hot Sun and are not allowed to sleep to make them young quickly.

- More hens are fitted in to the farms, where they cannot flap their wings, they bite one another and get injured.

- The hens are forced to sit in the sheds through out the day.

- The wings and beaks are chopped off with the help of hot metallic instruments and machines. This hard truth was mentioned in the world-renowned book, height for a new America, written by John Robins.

- Is it not foolishness to eat eggs containing 13 per cent protein and sacrificing vegetable food items containing 22 to 43-pr cent protein?

- Is it not stupidity to eat eggs, which are responsible for generating serious diseases instead of nutritious and healthy vegetarian food.

- Is it good to eat eggs 173 calories or vegetarian food containing 327 to 432 calories?

- Are we not encouraging violence and cruelty by eating the poor creatures that are subjected to different kinds of cruelty?

Inspirational factors for quitting eggs:

Eating eggs and meat is against the Vedas:

ya aamam maamsamadanti paurusheyam ca ye kavih
garbhaan khadanti keshavaastanito nashayaamasi
- Atharva Veda 8.6.23

In other words "I destroy the people who eat meat and eggs."

Gandhiji's opinion:

The religion does not allow us to eat eggs and meat, "looking at the climate of our nation we should stop the consumption of eggs, meat and alcohol."

A scientist's opinion A scientist said that the people who eat eggs appear to be very healthy in the beginning were very proud of them, their health is artificial and they have to loose their good health very soon. They contract different types of disease and they have to consult doctors and ayurvedic practitioners in order to get back the lost health. (Kalyan 9/73, page 964)

Manusmriti:

anumantaa vishamsitaa nihantaa kraya vikrayi
samskartaa copahartaa va khadakashceti ghatakah

The person who advises to eat non-vegetarian food, the butcher, the buyer, the seller, the cook, and the person who brings it and the person who eats it are all dangerous, killers and sinners.

We consider the above-mentioned facts seriously and decide that we should eat healthy, disease curing, more nutritious and pious vegetarian food so that we remain healthy, happy and livelong. We should not eat the meat obtained in a cruel manner by cutting the beaks and wings of the birds, which is less nutritious and disease causing food. We should not make our bodies malicious and make the mind impure and polluted.

Now the decision is yours whether to consider egg is a healthy food or it is unhealthy and against Hinduism.

The information below are copied from http://www.yogsandesh.org/articles/67/1/Non-vegetarian-Food-Healthy-or-Unhealthy/Page1.html

The alarming reality:

According to one finding, in India alone around 33 crores of birds and animals are killed every year and 50 lakh ton of flesh trade is carried on. This is enough to show that innumerable birds and animals are killed every year throughout the world. The question that arises is that, is it not possible for the human being to live healthy without eating non-vegetarian food? Is there no other food item left in this world, from which the human being can obtain all the required nutritious items?

The fact is that the human being can get the less expensive, nutritious, disease curing and healthy food from vegetarian food without killing any living creature. This can be proved from the following facts, that vegetarian food contains sufficient amount of nutrition and more than non-vegetarian food. Besides the WHO report says that the human being contracts around 159 types of diseases by the consumption of non-vegetari- an food. In comparison to non-vegetarian food the vegetarian food is totally harmless, beneficial and keeps us healthy. Killing the innocent birds and animals amounts to sin and crime. The poor speechless creatures are subjected to torture during the process of killing.

Vegetarian food contain more water:

If a man does not get food he can survive for 60 days but without water he can live for a maximum 7 hours or more depending on the capacity of the person. The body requires water for the circulation of the blood and digestion process. The food, which we consume, contains maximum 60 per cent of water but fruits and vegetable contain 95 per cent of water. This makes them easily digestible and nutritious. An apple contains 84 per cent water and banana and grapes have 75.3 and 77.3 per cent water respectively. A pear contains 89.4 per cent water and cabbage and carrot contain 91.5 and 88.2 per cent water respectively. Similarly spinach and the green leafy vegetables and tomato contain 92.3 and 94.3 per cent water. This water is equivalent to the mineral water, which is found in the hilly areas, and mountains, which contains sulphur. Therefore vegetables are more beneficial and healthy when compared to non-vegetarian food. The body weight can increase with the consumption of meat and heavy food but those who want to remain healthy; disease free with good skin quality should consume water in sufficient amount. This can be obtained only from vegetarian food.

Vegetarian food - complete food:

Renowned scientist working at scientific and industrial research council in national science institution, Bangalore, Dr. Keti has reached at the conclusion that vegetarian food is a complete food. A proper mix of vegetarian food items and to maintain the nutrition at the time of cooking, eating boiled food, properly drying, sprouts and fermentation can increase the food quality. Milk and milk products have sufficient amount of protein, calcium and vitamins. The toned milk also contains 38 per cent of high protein. There is no nutritional element, which is present in meat and eggs and not available in milk. This is beneficial for the heart patients as well because it reduces the level of cholesterol in the blood; it is the antidote to several poisons.

Fiber rich food:

The vegetarian food is rich in fiber whereas the non-vegetarian food is deficient in this element. These fibers are helpful in providing minerals and vitamins to the body. These avoid constipation and related diseases like piles, hernia, appendicitis, hepatitis, divertica, and varicose veins. These fibers are important because they protect us from stones and heart diseases by mutual action of cholesterol and bilirubin.

The vegetarian food is low in cholesterol:

The meat and meat products contain very high levels of cholesterol. They deposit inside the arteries and block the way this obstructs the free flow of blood to the hart and hence heart problem is more among the non-vegetarians.

Oiliness:

The oiliness present in the vegetarian food is thin in quality, this is known as linolic acid, this is very important for the body and its deficiency causes paleness in the body. The body looses the capacity to fight out diseases.

Vitamin B-12:

According to the specialists, half liter of milk provides the required quantity of this vitamin. The best sources of B-12 are curds, Idli, Dosa, Dokhla, and Jalebi etc.

Uric acid in non-vegetarian food is harmful:

The uric acid present in non-vegetarian food causes joint pain in the age of 40-50 years. One pound of non-vegetarian food contains 14-16 gm of this element. The kidneys remove it from our body but the kidneys can remove only 7 gm of uric acid from the body everyday. As a result the kidneys fail to remove the uric acid completely from the body. Hence the kidneys are prone to several diseases.

The best source of vitamins is vegetarian food:

Sprouted grains and cereals are rich in vitamin B. the amount of vitamin C increases ten times.

Non-vegetarian food is very expensive:

Feeding a hen with one kg of food gives 2 or 3 eggs. This is not very lucrative. Nowadays bird flu has raised suspicion in the peoples mind and India is not an exception.

Vegetarian food gives good health and long life:

In Abakhasiyansa state of Russia the average life span of a person is 100 years. These people are totally vegetarians. The Hunjas community of Kashmir is also vegetarians; therefore they are disease free and live long. In contrast, the Eskimos who eat only meat are prone to several diseases and they become inactive and dull at the age of 35 itself. During the Mahabharata people used to live up to 100 years and were at least 7 to 8 feet high. This was the result of eating vegetarian food.

Non-vegetarian is not strength giving:

The bulls, horses, buffaloes, rhinos and elephants are vegetarian and very strong, but jackal, leopards and lions are not that strong in spite of eating meat. The lion is always afraid of attacking an elephant hence it attacks from the back. Monkey and languor are vegetarians. Does any meat-eating animal have the capacity to jump like it? Dr. J.D.Krag, a strong supporter of vegetarian food says that he has found that several vegetarian Europeans are more intelligent, physically strong and good sportsmen when compared to non-vegetarians.

Non-vegetarian is the cause for several diseases:

According to the WHO report non-vegetarian food causes 159 different types of diseases. The most common diseases caused due to it are heart diseases, high blood pressure, kidney problem, gall bladder problems, wounds in arteries, eczema, paralysis, tuberculosis, constipation, pains, arthritis, hysteria etc. in comparison to it the vegetarian food is totally harm less, beneficial and cures diseases.

Non-vegetarian food weakens the bones:

American medical practitioner, Dr. A. Watchman and Dr. D.S.Bernstine have conducted a special study and declared their report. They said that non-vegetarian food weakens the bones gradually and they begin to deteriorate. The vegetarian people have strong bones when compared to non-vegetarians. In the non-vegetarians high quantity of alkaline and salts are excreted through urine, which causes deficiency of these salts in the blood. The blood fulfills the deficiency from the bones. The imbalance reduces the resistance power in the human beings.

Wild nature due to consumption of non-vegetarian food:

A famous scientist of Japan, Professor Venz has reached the conclusion on the basis of several experiments that non-vegetarian food plays a major role in raising the anger, anxiety, restlessness, hastiness, sexual desire ad criminal mentality. Therefore it is true that minute substances of food makes our mind and the mentality will be pious or passionate depending on the type of food we take.

Vegetarian food can cure partial headache:

Dr.Alexander Hugh who was a doctor at the metropolitan hospitals and gynecological and Pediatrician dispensary, Royal Hospital was suffering from partial headache. He was not satisfied with the medicines he was taking. He quit non-vegetarian food and starting taking milk and cottage cheese. As a result his illness was totally cured. Sacrificing meat also cured arthritis and other problems. He wrote a book titled food for all castes, in which he mentioned that the countries in which people eat very little or not eat meat have lesser chances to contract cancer. He also mentioned that he has knows many people who stopped eating non-vegetarian food and were cured of arthritis, insomnia, constipation and other diseases.

Non-vegetarian food causes cancer and nervous diseases:

According to Dr. Khar T Loder Braston non-vegetarian food does not give strength and instead makes us weak it produces nitrogen's, which functions like poison for the nerves.

Dr. Arthur Underwood says that 85 per cent of the throat and intestines problems are due to non-vegetarian food. On contrary the vegetarian food contains substances, which can prevent cancer.

The author of Diet and Food Dr. Hugh has differentiated between various strengthening and anxiety causing food products and said that vegetarian food is strengthening and non-vegetarian food causes anxiety.

Food problems due to non-vegetarian food:

In the developed countries 6 tones of food is given to the cattle in order to produce one ton of meat. American scientist Borg Storm says that the amount of food given to the animals in order to obtain meat is sufficient to subside the hunger of worlds 50 per cent population. When 8 kg of vegetable protein is fed to the animals they produce one kg of meat protein. In the same way one non-vegetarian calorie can be obtained after burning 7 calories of vegetables. This is simply the wastage of protein and calories.

Britain's Bernard Vaidyaril says that it is beyond ethics to feed the animals with more than half the quantity of world's food grain in order to obtain meat at a time when millions of people are starving. The same food could be given to them to satisfy their hunger. In order to obtain meat sufficient for the survival of ten people, the land that is used for this purpose the same land can be used for cultivating peas, barley, millets and other food grains then 100 people can survive.

Avoiding the consumption of meat can reduce hunger: if the rich western countries stop eating non-vegetarian food then the food problem of the world can be overcome. On one hand the animals are given 40 crores tons of food every year, so that the rich people can eat the meat of these animals and on the other hand due to the deficiency of food grains around 50 crores population of the poor countries dies due to starvation every year.

Vegetarian V/s Non-Vegetarian

Earlier days, it was common belief that non-vegetarian diet is superior to vegetarian diet. People used to think that non-vegetarian diet provides us more power and it is full of energetic ingredients. This theory attracted more and more people and ultimately a large number of people of the world adopted non-vegetarian diet. But now this concept is changing.

According to the new developments in medical sciences, vegetarian diet is closer to and is more useful for human nature. It is more scientific for human body. Because of this, people are now adopting vegetarian diet as part of new life-style. It is a fact that the non-vegetarian diet contains cholesterol and saturated fatty acid. These are the root cause of problems like coronary heart disease, cerebro-vascular accidents (strokes), eye diseases and high blood pressure. In a non-vegetarian diet, only 60 % of its content is useful for human body, rest 40 % contains harmful and toxic products. In addition to it, non-vegetarian diet is generally heavy for stomach and produces acidity, which in turn can cause many diseases of gastrointestinal system.

Another significantly important difference between vegetarian and non-vegetarian diet is that the former contains dietary fibers whereas non-vegetarian diet is lacking in fiber. These dietary fibers are very useful for human body because it has been observed that the people who eat diet rich in these dietary fibers have low incidence of diseases like coronary heart diseases, cancer of intestinal tract, piles, obesity, diabetes, constipation, hitatus hernia, diverticulitis, irritable bowel syndrome, dental caries and gallstones. The food stuffs rich in these dietary fibers are cereals and grains, legumes, fruits with seeds, citrus fruits, carrot, cabbage, celery, green leafy vegetables, apples, melons, peaches, pears etc.

Many disease causing organisms can travel in the body of human being by consumption of non-vegetarian diet and can produce serious diseases, whereas a vegetarian diet is free of these. For example, Bovine Spongi cause Encephalopathy and mad cow disease is also a product of consumption of non-vegetarian diet. Similarly the bacteria known as salmonella typhimurium can travel in the body of human being by consumption of eggs, which can cause diseases, like pneumonia, bronchitis. These bacteria belong to the group of typhoid disease producing organisms.

According to a study, it has been observed that the body of non-vegetarian animals contain 10 times more amount of hydrochloric acid than that of vegetarian ones, but human body should not have the same amount of hydrochloric acid. This establishes the fact human body is basically meant for a vegetarian diet.

Influenced by all these facts, Mr. Robins, a well-known writer of America, has mentioned in his book "Diet for New America" that if Americans want to live long they should avoid non-vegetarian diet and eggs. Not only Americans but also Britishers and Germans are also adopting vegetarian as dietary style of their lives. Therefore in a nut shell, we can say if we want a healthy and disease free life, we must adopt vegetarian diet as our diet pattern.

Mantras and their Importance

| THE MYSTERY OF MANTRAS |

MANTRAS are mystic sounds which produce certain type of energies. ‘Mananath Trayathe Ithi Mantraha’- Mantra protects the person who recites it. This means Mantras are primarily invented by great seers for the welfare of the society.

Mantra Hindu mantras mystic repetition healing mantras sounds Graha mantras The cosmic energy we always receive contains different energies coming from different celestial bodies. Because we are part of our solar system, the energies coming from the Planets in this solar system always fall on us, and absorbed by our body. These energies are much needed by every one of us. They drive our daily activities and decisions. Our life force is indeed combined with these energies. When there is a deficit of any of these energies, the related problems will arise. For example, when there is a deficit of energy coming from Sun, health problems like headache, bad eye sight, weakness of heart etc will occur. Also there will be problems with one’s boss or government officials. There will be obstacles in acquiring paternal property. We can overcome all these problems by increasing the Sun’s energy in the individual by adopting various techniques. Recitation of Sun’s Mantra is the most effective technique.

What happens when a Mantra is recited? When we repeatedly utter a Mantra we are tuning to a particular frequency and this frequency establishes a contact with the cosmic energy and drags it into our body and surroundings. Thus we can balance the energies and also increase the level of a certain type of energy, which promote certain actions and events. For example, if we increase the Mercury’s energy level, it promotes us to take intelligent steps in business.

All mantras came from the single sacred sound: 'Om'. Om is a combination of 3 main sounds: Aa-Vu-Ma. (See the symbol of Om at right) 'Aa' represents Vishnu, the sustainer, 'Vu' represents Siva, the destroyer, and 'Ma' represents Brahma, the creator. Aa-also represents the Sun, Vu-the Moon, and Ma-the Fire. There are more than 150 meanings uncovered from the sound 'Om', so far. It is said that lord Siva was the first to reveal mantras for the welfare of the mankind, through sages. (See him with his family at top left).

There are Mantras for every thing. The ‘Gayatri Mantra’ recited by Hindus comprise 24 sounds, each sound is loaded with the energy of a different type by ancient sages.
