Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in the Land of Pillaiyaar
Bhagwan Ganesh is the most worshipped deity in the Hindu pantheon. Hindus begin each and every work only after worshipping him, for he is believed to be the remover of all obstacles. All of us, children and elderly alike, adore, admire, revere and worship him with a ‘personal’ touch and the moment we look at him, bhakti starts flowing. We celebrate his ‘Jayanti’ which falls on shukla paksha chaturthi of Bhadrapad as Ganesh Chaturthi.
After completing puja, worship and celebration, we immerse the Vigraham (murthy) in a water body such as sea, river, lake, canal or well, the “Visarjanam” ritual. The celebration, restricted to individual homes and temples from olden days, was elevated to the level of streets, areas, villages and towns, by Maratha lion Bal Gangadhar Tilak, to promote unity among Hindus to show their strength against the British. The concept of celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi as a huge social festival spread to other parts of the country and ultimately became a festival of devotion, patriotism and unity.
Ganesh – “Pillaiyaar” of Tamil Nadu
The Puranas say that the famous river Kaveri was brought to Tamil Nadu by none other than Sri Ganesha, by releasing the river waters from the kamandal of the Rsi Agastya, when he was doing penance at the hills of Coorg.
Sri Ganesha was instrumental in the creation of the world famous Vaishnavite shrine Srirangam by deceiving Vibhishan while he was taking the Vigraha of Sri Ranganatha, given by Sri Rama after his coronation, to Sri Lanka. Ganesha enticed Vibhishan to take a bath in the beautiful Kaveri, so he placed the Vigraha on the banks, where it got stuck as per Rama’s warning.
Later, the Adi Cholas build a huge temple at the spot, which became Srirangam. Bhagwan Ganesha blessed the angry Vibhishan by giving him darshan at a nearby hillock, which later became the famous ‘Rock fort’ Ganesh Temple (Malai-kottai Pillaiyaar) of Trichy.
Another Puranic narrative states: Before starting construction of the Rama Setu, Rama decided to worship Bhagwan Ganesha for the successful completion of the task. He went to nearby Uppoor, (5 kms from Setukarai in Ramanathapuram district, where he consecrated the image of Bhagwan Ganesha, which murti is still there! These Puranic episodes are mentioned in “Deivaththin Kural” (Voice of God), which contains the religious discourses of the Great Sage of Kanchi, H.H. Sri Paramacharya.
Dravidian Racists’ hatred for Bhagwan Ganesha
To create hatred in Tamil minds, the atheist Dravidian parties severely and consistently campaigned against the worship of Bhagwan Ganesha and Bhagwan Rama, conducting huge processions with portraits, pictures and small statues of Rama and Ganesha wearing garlands made of footwear and broomsticks, beating the deities, and breaking the statues and portraits on the road. Dravidian leaders tried to mislead Tamils saying Ganesha and Rama were not “Tamil Gods” but “Aryan Gods” who should not be worshipped.
This ugly and outrageous campaign was carried out throughout the state under the leadership of the founder of Dravidar Kazhagam E.V. Ramaswamy (Periyar) and his colleagues like M. Karunanidhi (present CM). Unexpectedly, the consequences were devastating for these parties as hundreds of temples sprang up for Bhagwan Ganesha and lakhs of Vigrahas were placed in each and every street corner throughout the state; the number is still increasing. Tamil Nadu has become the “Land of Pillaiyaar”, the state hosting the largest number of Ganesh Temples in India.
Karunanidhi’s takes on Bhagwan Ganesha
In 2007, a few days before Ganesh Chaturthi, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi came out with the discovery that Bhagwan Ganesha was brought to Tamil Nadu from Karnataka by the Pallavas after their victory over the Chalukyas, hence Ganesha was not a ‘Tamil God’. When Shiva (father of Ganesha), Muruga (Tamil god and brother of Ganesha) and Mother Parvati are worshipped by Tamils from ancient times, how could he say Ganesha was not a Tamil god? The history of Sage Agastya and other Siddhars and the various Puranas point to ancient reverence.
With his vast knowledge on Tamil literature, Karunanidhi would be aware that Ganesha is extensively mentioned in Tamil literature and that the Saivite trio of Sambandar, Appar and Sundarar worshipped Ganesha through their hymns. He must be aware of the composition, Vinayagar Agaval, by ancient poet ‘Avvaiyar.’ Yet he has always derived a sadistic pleasure from demeaning Hindu Gods for political gains.
Ironically, he brashly launched his Kalaignar TV on the auspicious day of Ganesh Chaturthi. But while celebrating its anniversaries since then, true to Dravidian standards, the channel announces that it was telecasting ‘Holiday’ special programs; other channels including SUN network announce Ganesh Chaturthi special programs!
Selective amnesia has made the CM forget that that EVR was a Kannadiga from Karnataka, and that he himself hails from Andhra, from where his ancestors allegedly migrated to Tamil Nadu. If these outsiders could rule Tamil Nadu, what's wrong in Tamil Hindus worshipping Ganesha, assuming Ganesha was from Karnataka?
The actual number of atheists are not even 5% of the state’s population; DMK could not have captured power with votes of atheists and minorities alone. The party has a huge percentage of votes polled by God-believing Tamil Hindus and as Chief Minister of the state, Karunanidhi is expected to treat all equally irrespective of caste and religion. Sadly, during his entire tenure in the past and at present, he has always behaved as an anti-Hindu.
Recent happenings in the state
The main consequence of the consistent anti-Hindu stance of the Dravidian parties is that the minority communities have been emboldened to act against the majority and have started to interfere in the celebration of Hindu religious festivals, particularly Ganesh Chaturthi. Let us look at a few recent happenings in the state.
When Hemanth of Hindu Munnani wanted to place a Ganesh Vigraha in his locality in Pudupet, Chennai city, the local Muslims objected and the police forced him to shift the murti to another place. This happened on 22 August.
In Thiruppur, when a Visarjan procession was going along a main road with police protection on 25 August, a group of Muslims from a roadside mosque pelted stones and damaged the vehicles carrying the Vigrahas and broke some of them. Though the police brought the situation under control, the procession was delayed more than three hours.
The same day (25 August), at Boothapandi in Kanyakumari District, a group of Muslims dressed as policemen attacked a Ganesh Pandal in the wee hours and broke the Vigraha to pieces. They attacked the six Hindu youths guarding the Pandal with sickles and knives and escaped in two wheelers. The police have registered a case.
Muslims of Begampur in Dindigul are notorious in creating unrest and indulging in violence during Visarjan processions; this has been going on since 1998. This year one of them approached the High Court demanding a ban on the procession and change of route (so that it did not pass in front of the mosque), the Court dismissed the petition. Despite this, the district authorities, on 25 August, forced the bhaktas to stop chanting Ganesh namas and playing musical instruments while passing in front of the mosque.
One Mohammed Chipli of Muthupet, Thiruvarur district, had filed a petition in the High Court requesting a change of route of the Ganesh Visarjan procession. His contention was that more than 15,000 Muslims live in Muthupet and that the procession must not pass by the mosques, as every year it results in violence causing heavy loss of properties. The First Bench comprising Chief Justice Gokhale and Justice Murugesan, which heard the petition on 26 August, ordered the district authorities to look for an alternative route and also strict and severe action against those who disrupt the procession.
In 2007, in Thammampatti in Salem district, it was reported that hundreds of Muslims staged a dharna in front of the local police station protesting the placement of Ganesh Vigrahas. In turn, thousands of Hindus protested at the Bus Stand, without obstructing bus traffic. The protest and counter protest led to a heavy lathi-charge by the police; police also filed FIRs against more than five hundred Hindus. In a rare show of unity, Hindus came together across caste and party affiliations and all Hindu businessmen and vendors closed their shops and suspended business for five days, which made the Muslims climb down from their unacceptable demands. Even the local police and government authorities were shell-shocked at the united show by the Hindus.
In 2001, the government banned the processions and arranged for the Visarjan by the police and revenue departments.
Facts and Questions
While analyzing the above, we infer the following facts and questions:
- Only the public thoroughfare, which is common to all, has been used for Visarjan processions and that too only once a year.
- The demand of the Muslim community that processions must not pass their worship place and that music must not be played while passing by mosques is unreasonable, unjustified and totally unacceptable.
- Violence, which used to occur rarely, has spread throughout the state over the years, along with the increase and spread of Muslim fundamentalist outfits.
- The action of the police and other authorities in yielding to the unreasonable demands of the Muslims and forcing Hindus to change the procession route and stop playing musical instruments does not augur well for the government.
- Muslims must accept that it is not fair to object to an annual event which takes just a few minutes to cross their worship place, while they themselves call for Namaz five times daily through loudspeakers. Moreover, a lot of old mosques are situated and new mosques have come up close to Hindu temples; their loudspeakers disturb the prayers and puja rituals in the temples. Will Muslims accept if Hindus demand for a ban on loudspeakers in mosques? So far Hindus have never interfered in Muslim festivals and celebrations, respecting their religious sentiments. Muslims must refrain from interfering in Hindu celebrations.
- Whenever the Dravidian parties conduct state level conferences, the cadres come to the capital in lakhs by hundreds of vans, buses and other transports. The cadres are invariably drunk and shout, scream and are noisy; such long convoys pass by mosques in many places. Why don’t Muslims ever object to these disturbances?
- The police set restrictions on the height of the Vigrahas, number of Vigrahas to be carried in procession, number of people, procession route and playing of music, and also ask Hindus to make their own security arrangements for the Ganesh Pandals. While police in cities like Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kolkata (where Muslims are numerous) and other states allow Hindus to celebrate freely without restrictions, why is Tamil Nadu police behaving like this?
- For more than four decades, the Dravidian parties and leaders have been insulting Hindus, ridiculing Hindu culture and demeaning Hindu Gods and have never conveyed greetings on Hindu festivals. They have been very accommodative of minorities and greet them on their festivals and join the celebrations. Is it because of this blatant anti-Hindu stand of the rulers that Muslims are against Hindus?
The solution lies with the people
We do get rare reports that in some places Muslims welcomed the Visarjan processions and community leaders garlanded the Vigrahas and conveyed greetings to Hindus. Such acts are good for communal harmony, but Hindus basically want respect for their religious sentiments and non-interference in their rituals and celebrations by the community as a whole.
Peace and harmony are not in the hands of government or police or politicians. It is in the hands of the general public. If every community understands and respects the sentiments of others, peace and harmony will prevail. May Bhagwan Ganesha bless this nation with His infinite wisdom.

Hindu religious ideology explains how the four Varnas were founded. According the Rig Veda, the ancient Hindu book, the primal man – Purush – destroyed himself to create a human society. The different Varnas were created from different parts of his body. The Brahmans were created from his head; the Kshatrias from his hands; the Vaishias from his thighs and the Sudras from his feet. The Varna hierarchy is determined by the descending order of the different organs from which the Varnas were created. Other religious theory claims that the Varnas were created from the body organs of Brahma, who is the creator of the world.
The psychological theory talks about Sattva qualities include wisdom, intelligence, honesty, goodness and other positive qualities. Rajas include qualities like passion, pride, valour and other passionate qualities. Tamas qualities include dullness, stupidity, lack of creativity and other negative qualities. People with different doses of these inherent qualities adopted different types of occupation.
According to this theory the Brahmans inherent Sattva qualities. Kshatrias and Vaisias inherent Rajas qualities. And the Sudras inherent Tamas qualities.
Like human beings, food also inherents different dosage of these qualities and it affects its eater’s intelligence. The Brahmans and the Vaisias have Sattvic diet which includes fruits, milk, honey, roots and vegetables. Most of the meats are considered to have Tamasic qualities. Many Sudra communities eat different kinds of meat (but not beef) and other Tamasic food. But the Kshatrias who had Rajasic diet eat some kinds of meat like deer meat which is considered to have Rajasic qualities. Many Marathas who claim to be Kshatrias eat mutton. The drawback of this theory is that in different parts of India the same food was sometimes qualified to have different dosage of inherent qualities. For example there were Brahmans who eat meat which is considered Tamasic food.
As a tool of social engineering, caste system came into existence. In order to secure their status the Aryans resolved some social and religious rules which, allowed only them to be the priests, warriors and the businesmen of the society. As in most of the societies of the world, so in India, the son inherited his father’s profession. And so in India there developed families, who professed the same family profession for generation in which, the son continued his father’s profession. Later on as these families became larger, they were seen as communities or as they are called in Indian languages, Jat. Different families who professed the same profession developed social relations between them and organized as a common community, meaning Jat.
Later on the Aryans who created the caste system, added to their system non-Aryans. Different Jats who professed different professions were integrated in different Varnas according to their profession. Other foreign invaders of ancient India – Greeks, Huns, Scythains and others – who conquered parts of India and created kingdoms were integrated in the Kshatria Varna (warrior castes). But probably the Aryan policy was not to integrate original Indian communities within them and therefore many aristocratic and warrior communities that were in India before the Aryans did not get the Kshatria status.
Most of the communities that were in India before the arrival of the Aryans were integrated in the Sudra Varna or were made outcast depending on the professions of these communities. Communities who professed non-polluting jobs were integrated in Sudra Varna. And communities who professed polluting professions were made outcasts. The Brahmans are very strict about cleanliness. In the past people believed that diseases can also spread also through air and not only through physical touch. Perhaps because of this reason the untouchables were not only disallowed to touch the high caste communities but they also had to stand at a certain distance from the high castes.
After the tragic death of YSR Reddy, chief minister, Andhra Pradesh, some of YSR’s followers campaigned to install his son as his successor.
Jagan Mohan Reddy, son of YSR only weeks ago had successfully contested parliamentary elections. He had never held any portfolio but within hours of his father’s death, YSR’s party wanted to appoint him the chief minister of a large and prosperous state. The Congress leadership at the centre under Sonia Gandhi does not want to relent on this issue. By the way, after Indira Gandhi’s death, her son Rajiv Gandhi came back into politics. But Rahul Gandhi has not yet contested for the Prime Minister’s post and this could be the reason that Congress leadership is not keen to suddenly propel Jagan Mohan Reddy as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
Many reasons have been cited for Congress disinclination to oblige JM Reddy. The Congress party at the Centre wants to show that it calls the shots and if it relents to the demand of followers of YSR, it will set a precedent and other Chief Minister’s would think of carving their own independent fiefdoms.
Further Congress party is aware that if JM Reddy is made the Chief Minister, it will open a pandora’s box as both nationally and internationally it will open Congress party for criticism.
We must not get carried away by Congress leadership’s attitude towards Jagan Mohan Reddy, but read between the lines as the list of candidates released for the forthcoming state elections in Maharashtra is peppered with names of Congress party leaders from this State. Maybe Congress party feels that it is alright to do so during elections time and in other times it has to maintain its holier than thou status.
Roots of dynasty politics run so deep that even the son of the president of India has secured a party nomination. This has been done to topple his challengers which include an erstwhile powerful lone wolf congress loyalist who fell out of favor with the congress leadership at the centre.
Most of the other political parties also follow the leader in dynasty politics. The ruling elite in regional parties have ensured that their successors are in the power game. It has to be seen as a profession and its roots go back to the caste system.
Mr Karunanidhi and his clan have a say in the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), TamilNadu , by the way it is also a partner in the governing coalition in Delhi.
Take another example of the Sangmas from Meghalaya, and whodoes not know about Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family’s hold in the RJD in Bihar. The Badals clan run the Akali Dal in Punjab, the Thackeray clan runs Shiv Sena in Maharashtra and the Chaudhary Charan Singh clan have great influence in parts of Uttar Pradesh.
A very fascinating side of Indian politics is the case of Mayawati of BSP, Chief Minister of UP and Jayalalitha, leader of AIADMK in Tamil Nadu. These two single women are fabled for their autocratic ways.
The fresh blood which has been injected in both the houses of parliament shows that most of the young MPs are scions of their parents who had considerable hold in their respective states. Whether it be a Gandhi, Abdullah, Pawar, Scindhia, Pilot, Prasad, Yadav, Sangma, Satpathy, Choudhary, Deora, Dutt…etc.,
With due respect to the ability of these scions from various political dynasties in India, these may be very intelligent and hardworking children of political dynasties of India but in the regions which they represent it will not be wrong to say that they have also usurped the right of ordinary Indians to secure nominations from mainstream political parties to contest elections. Another scion of a political family is Sachin Pilot, a normally very sure-footed and smooth-talking management graduate, second-term MP and a minister in the central government.
To understand Indian politics, one needs to understand that the Indian vote bank votes on caste ideologies. These scions of ruling family or others have vote banks which holds their families in favorable perception.
Indian democracy is about understanding the Indian caste system as voters cast their votes based on their religious ideology or caste ideologies.

Attack On Swami Nityanada and Sanatana Dharma
This is more so in Tamil Nadu where a few scurrilous newspapers and TV Channels, deriving their inspiration and working philosophy from what I call the dastardly Dravidian Drivel, seem to be working on a 24x7 basis for the creation of false illusions about men and events. They are essentially anti-Hindu, pan-Islamic, pan-Christian in their general outlook. Our every effort to satisfy our extravagant expectations simply makes them more extravagant and makes our illusions commercially more attractive to these vermin in the media. For these pseudo-secular non-men in the mafia of mass media in India-both print and electronic-- the creation of more and more false illusions about Hindu Swamijis, Saints And Sages---the broadcast of "the false news behind the false news"-seems to have become the life-breath of their whole time commercial operations.
IN MY VIEW SWAMI PARAMAHAMSA NITYANANDA HAS BECOME THE UNFORTUNATE VICTIM OF THIS KIND OF SCURRILOUS AND DELIBERATELY ANTI-HINDU REPORTING BY THE PSEUDO-SECULAR MAFIA OF MASS MEDIA IN TAMIL NADU. This is the only objective inference that I can draw after seeing the 2 sessions of long interviews of Swami Paramahamsa Nityananda conducted yesterday by Shri Rajiv Malhotra, Founder Chairman of Infinity Foundation in Princeton USA. Anyone can see that the mass media in Tamil Nadu in general and Sun TV and Dinakaran Tamil Daily in particular seem to have usurped the power of both the legal and moral policing of Hindu Swamijis in Tamil Nadu. All the Hindus of India know that the DMK Government is essentially an anti-Hindu, pro-Christian and pro-Islamic Government. The Chief Minister Dr. Kalaignar Karunanidhi has total contempt for Hindu Gods and Goddesses in general and Lord Rama in particular.
Dr. Kalignar Karunanidhi took special pride in asking this question with dictatorial authority: "Where did Mr. Rama (of Ayodhya fame) get his engineering degree from?" Dr Karunanidhi and his DMK Party derive their political and religious philosophy from the Perversity of Periyarana about which I had written an article in a newspaper in 1993. His mighty intellect of global significance can be seen from the following extract from my own article of 1993 :
"A detailed study of Karl Marx is called Marxiana. A detailed study of Mahatma Gandhi is called Gandhiana. A detailed study of Churchill is called Churchilliana. A detailed study of Periyar is called Periyarana. I have read all the writings of that great intellectual giant Periyar, called the Socrates of Tamil Nadu or Bernard Shaw of Europe. Personally I have received great inspiration, illumination and rational instruction from his mighty intellectual outpourings. l am giving you some flashes of time-defying wisdom and original genius from the Intellectual Armoury of "Periyarana".
"1. "Tamil is a barbarous language and Tamilians are barbarians"
"2. "15 August 1947 is not the day of our freedom. It is a day of mourning and sorrow""
"3. "I want to be surrounded by fifty bloody fools, so that I am heard without any undue disturbance at all my public meetings"
"4. "Parimelazhagar who wrote the commentary on Thirukural was a "Parppanar" (Periyar was always more interested in Dravidian substance than in Aryan shadow!).""
"5. "Whoever worships a Hindu God is a bloody fool."" ("Vadi-Kattina-Muttal" in Tamil)
Seeing the manner in which the mafia of anti-Hindu mass media in Tamil Nadu have attempted to malign a Hindu Swami like Swami Nityananda having innumerable disciples in India and abroad, with evangelical and Islamic fervour, I cannot help observing that the real motive power for this kind of savage operation stems from what I call the rational-racial anti-Hindu Dravidianism. About 15 years ago I wrote a poem on this Grand Theme. It was my first attempt to decode and decipher the standard Dravidian drivel. I would allow the poem to speak for itself:
It is multi-dimensional!
Hindu spiritual knowledge is superstitious
And secular ignorance is rational;
Character is superstitious
And debauchery is rational;
Chastity is superstitious
And prostitution of mind, body, heart and soul is rational;
Discipline is superstitious
And indiscipline is rational;
Accepted global truth is superstitious
And dastardly Dravidian untruth is rational;
Refinement is superstitious
And brutality is rational;
Justice is superstitious
And rapacious injustice is rational;
Counsels of the wise and the good are superstitious
And the flattery of knaves is particularly rational.
A legally wedded wife is superstitious and irrational
Innumerable concubines are powerfully and symbolically rational!!
One can go on like this in this vein endlessly in a superstitious and irrational manner because the turgid stream of Dravidian perversity and unabashed bestiality is indeed perpetual and even perennial. It may not be too much to say that all the leading actors in the highly exciting and even titillating Dravidian Drama have succeeded condomizing everything excepting the condom itself in the name of rationalism and social justice.
I share the view of many Hindu activists in India and abroad that the anti-Hindu Government of India and the State Government of Tamil Nadu are very friendly towards those foreign Christian forces in America and Europe who are determined to destroy Sanatana Dharma in order to "harvest souls" for Christ in eternal perpetuity India. Swami Nithyananda has become the latest victim of Christian/Dravidian anti-guru demonology! This becomes very clear from the message forwarded to me by Shri Rajiv Malhotra
This is the message:
"WHY THE CHURCH & MK TARGETTED NITYANANDA PARAMAHAMSA?
Swami Nithyananda was critical of Dravidian politics and Christian conversions, so he is paying the price. He is from a lower caste community and very effective in stopping Christian conversions in rural Tamil Nadu. So the Dravidian supremo Karunanidhi and the Church targeted him. This was an orchestrated attack at multiple locations simultaneously, some attacks starting even before the TV video was played. Clearly it was coordinated. This plight faces every Hindu guru. Its nothing new for the church which has a 2000 history of such mafia tactics to destroy pagan opponents. It is due to this fear that most gurus today dilute Hinduism and make it look like pseudo-Christianity. Message is that gurus with authenticity combined with audacity are going to get attacked this way. Hindus, beware. I am seeing a lot of attacks, stings and media operations against Hindu saints and temples all over India, not to mention assasinations, like that of the Hindu saint in Orissa. Remember Christian NDTV"s campaign against Sabrimala temple some time ago? Something stinks. The church is involved. Hindus should remember that the Church operates in India through two parties: Congress and DMK. Shun these two parties like plague."
Swami Jyothirmayananda has forwarded to me the following message he has received WHO FRAMED NITYANANDA IN THE STING OPERATIONS?
"Knowing Hindus for what they are, evangelists and their mercenaries/hirelings are able to demonize Hindus with impunity, with "official" support. Poojya Kanchi Acharya, Chathurveda Swami, Sabarimala Thanthri, and several priests and so-called god-men have been maligned by pre-planned, well-executed conspiracies by evangelists, whose aim is well-known to all of us. And the conspirators have not been exposed. They are targeting Swamis who have become popular. Every religious leader of the Hindus and their Ashrams/temples are on their "hit list". So all religious leaders and Ashramites have to be vigilant. In these days of advanced technology in computer graphics, anything is possible. According to Sun News, those who attacked Swami Nityananda"s ashrams included Viduthalai Chiruthaikal (Thirumavalavan"s party- this man was conferred "doctorate of divinity" by the Church), Periyar"s DK and "local" people (obviously owing allegiance to the DMK)."
All the devotees of Swami Nityananda and all the enlightened citizens of India would like to pose the following questions to the mass media --- both print and electronic --- in general and Sun TV and Dinakaran Tamil Newspaper in particular:
A. Have you verified the facts relating to the video broadcast by you on your TV channel?
B. Are you aware of the fact that the lands on which Swami Nityananda"s ashram is located in Bangalore were in fact donated by a well known philanthropical family in Bangalore?
C. Have you physically verified the land documents relating to this land and the other lands owned by the Hindu religious order to which Swami Nityananda belongs?
There seems to be an organized conspiracy of cold silence by the mass media in respect of the above questions.
Deepak Kamat in his website greathindu.com has brought the following facts to the notice of the larger gullible public. These are his words:
"So it is now confirmed the Nithyananda video aired by SUN TV is morphed and was intended to defame Hindus.
One Perumananda alias Lenin Karupannan joined Nithyananda"s ashram for "peace" but later started creating all kinds of nuisances on the ashram premises and caused hardship to the inmates. He wanted to destroy religious sentiments and made false propaganda and defamatory statements against the swamy and the ashram.
Karupannan was very conversant with morphing of the images with the help of information technology. He had also demonstrated his skills in morphing images and bodies, to the other inmates. Subsequently, Karupannan was "degraded". And an enraged Karupannan started blackmailing the Swamy by stating that he was in possession of morphed videos of other inmates and would expose them. The video clipping presently on air was also part of the morphed productions of Karupannan.
"Prior enmity" is the motive behind the airing of the clippings by a Tamil TV channel.
Nithyananda had rejected Sun TV"s invitation to conduct a discourse on the channel as well as write for Kungumam, a magazine published by the group. Besides, he had also refused to deliver special discourses during Deepavali. "Keeping this in mind, the channel is trying to malign the image of Swami Nithyananda among his followers and spread false propaganda about him,"
The room shown in the video does not exist inside the ashram, and the images of the Swami had been morphed using high technology by a "group". "The man shown in the video is not Swami Nithyananda."
The channel had blurred out actress Ranjita"s face on March 2 and revealed it the next day only after a Tamil magazine published the pictures. The actress was threatened by Sun TV. The TV channel had not bothered to crosscheck the authenticity of the video CD with the ashram and aired the clippings in haste.
The entire exercise is a "big conspiracy" to defame the Swami and aimed at increasing the TRP ratings of the TV channel. There are 300 inmates in the ashram. "So far, not a single woman has filed any complaint against the swami,"
Swami Nityananda would present himself before the newsmen in the future and answer all questions. His ashram is working on a legal course of action on the issue."
When I see the orchestrated attack on Swami Nityananda and his ashram carried out by the mass media, I cannot help stating that our print and electronic media are capable of colluding together to manufacture salacious "pseudo-events". The common prefix "pseudo" comes from the Greek word meaning false or intended to deceive. The case manufactured by Swami Nityananda by the mass media in subterranean collusion with many national and international anti-Hindu forces of Christianity, should be categorized and castigated as a "pseudo-event".
The successful reporter is one who can find a story, even if there is no earthquake or assassination or civil war. If he cannot find a story, then he must make (manufacture!) one - by the questions he asks of public or Hindu religious figures, by the surprising human interest he unfolds from some commonplace event, or by "the news behind the news". If all this fails, then he must give a "think piece" --- an embroidering of well-known facts, or a speculation about startling things to come. Though the news they make happen, the events they create, are somehow not quite real. There remains a tantalizing difference between man-made and God-made events.
A "pseudo-event" then, is a happening that possesses the following characteristics:
1. It is not spontaneous, but comes about because someone has planned, planted or incited it. The case against Swami Nityananda has to be dismissed from our minds as a "pseudo-event".
Within minutes of broadcasting by Sun TV of an alleged video clipping of the Swami organised goon squads started attacking the ashram and terrorizing the Hindu devotees. In the meantime, the Media had already gone to town condemning the Swami, thoroughly trashing his reputation and filling up newspapers with columns after columns of libellous conjectures. Almost immediately, a Pakistani News Site NewsGone and a Leftist US based site Huffingtonpost and of course BBC carry a scandal with a substantial editorial twist.
But the headline of most news media was "Fraud Godman Nityananda in . scandal". The trial by media concluded before any verification, that the Swami is fraud.
Then the anti-Hindu media started floating headlines such as "The Goodman"s admirers include Gujarat CM Modi and Karnataka CM Yeddyurappa". These two are popular Hindu politicians and our known criminals in the media with the full backing of the anti-Hindu "Secular" State are trying to somehow connect them to the media-condemned Swami Nityananda while conveniently trying to hide the fact that former Congress Chief Minister and current Union Cabinet Minister SM Krishna and former president Abdul Kalam are among his admirers.
2. A "pseudo-event" is planted primarily (not always exclusively) for the immediate purpose of being reported or reproduced on a war-footing. Therefore, ITS OCCURRENCE IS ARRANGED FOR THE CONVENIENCE OF THE REPORTING OR REPRODUCING MAFIA IN THE MEDIA. ITS SUCCESS IS MEASURED BY HOW WIDELY IT IS REPORTED. The question, "is it real?" is less important than "is it newsworthy?."
3. A "pseudo-event"s" relation to the underlying reality of the situation is ambiguous. Its universal interest arises largely from this very ambiguity. Concerning a "pseudo-event", the question "What does it mean?" has a new dimension. A "pseudo-event" will always raise questions of this kind: "What happened?"; "What were the real consequences?"; "What were the motives?" and "Did the statement really mean what it said?". Without some sort of this kind of ambiguity a "pseudo-event" can never be exciting or interesting. Here I am referring to this kind of public response: "Can there be smoke without a fire?"
4. Usually a "pseudo-event" is intended to be a self-fulfilling prophesy. The Judge is the accuser; though the Judge is pointing his finger to another accused (who in fact is totally innocent!) he is in fact the real accused. Finally, the Judge himself completes the planned criminal circle by giving a verdict against the chosen "another accused" (who in fact is innocent!).
5. "Pseudo-events" are more dramatic. Participants are selected for their newsworthy and dramatic interests.
6. "Pseudo-events" can be repeated at will and thus their public impression can be reinforced.
7. Knowledge of "pseudo-events" --- of what has been reported, or what has been staged and how --- becomes the test of being "informed".
8. Finally, "pseudo-events" spawn other "pseudo-events" in geometric progression. They dominate our consciousness simply because there are more of them and the real un-manufactured events get masked or obliterated from public memory.
THE GREAT N.D TIWARI"S NAKED ROMP WITH TWO WOMEN IN THE ANDHRA PRADESH RAJ BHAVAN GOT MUCH LESS COVERAGE IN OUR PRINT AND ELECTRONIC ANTI-HINDU MASS MEDIA. The naked truth about the mafia of mass media in India is that they are not concerned at all about the naked truth of any urgent or pressing public issue! Omalur Christian priests got away with sexually abusing and murdering 15 or more girls without much fanfare.
However an obviously faked and digitally morphed film with an actor impersonating as Swami Nityananda has become judicially admissible evidence for our mafia of mass media in India.
In this context, we are reminded of Jayalalitha"s war against the Kanchi Matam, where
the entire machinery of State was misused to frame the Seer Swami Jayendra Saraswati.
The State Machinery has not come into play against Swami Nithyananda yet, but
the Media Machine owned and operated by the family of the present CM
is just as near "Government-sponsored" as you can get.
The current move for forging unity among the hundreds of Swamis, Pontiffs, Sannidhanams, Peetams, Ashrams and the Exhibitions and conferences organised by them to showcase the charitable, educational and social-service activities hitherto carried out silently by them all over India, and more particularly in Tamil Nadu is what seems to have set the Alien-owned cat among the Hindu pigeons. The charitable and social work of Hindu Organisations far exceeds the well-publicised (and well-compensated) work by Christian, Islamic or Atheist-family-owned Organisations. Off Shore Money and the Off Shore Commercial Religions are certainly behind this move.
To conclude, a criminal media-cum-political blame-game has been played in a deliberate manner to malign Swami Nityananda and his ashram.
I fully endorse the statement of a fearless freelance journalist Shri K. Vijayan:
"Are we living in a Democracy or a Blackshirt Blackguards" State?
(The Fascist cadres of Italy, and Hitlers Nazis wore Black Shirts and uniforms. Our Kazhagams were founded and organised on the same pattern.)
After this latest State-sponsored "Trial by Media" outrage against Swami Nithyananda, no one, including brain-dead, brain-washed coolie-padais of the various Kazhagams and caste outfits in Tamil Nadu will be under the illusion that we are ruled by a democratic, liberal, progressive, or even "Tamil" Government of Thamizhars.
What we have is a decaying, decrepit Tyrant and his rampaging Dynasty running Murder, Mayhem, Extortion and Blackmail Rackets, and waging a War against Hindus funded by Christian and Muhammedan Forces on the side.
If it were only a question of being ruled by a gang of criminals, thieves and extortionists we could have gone along with it. After all most of India was de-facto ruled by murdering, looting, uncultured barbaric Muhammedan and Christian Savages for a thousand years, and still we managed to maintain our Hindu Religion and Culture.
The instances of scurrilous attacks and outrages against Hindu Temples, Ashrams, Seers, Gurus and their Charitable and Social Work Organisations taking place today are too numerous to list out.
On the other hand the extreme partiality and favours bestowed on Christian, Muhammedan and "atheistic" organizations, apart from never taking cognizance of their serious crimes like rape, murder, land-grab, denigration of Hindu Religious places and beliefs, and forcible conversions, seldom find any place in the Media, let alone State-organised Slander Campaigns.
The Shining example is the cover-up in the Omalur Schoolgirls rape and murder series, where the sinning Minority Priests were rewarded a crore of rupees by the State. Christians call this kind of Commerce "Absolution".
(The Blackguards of Europe attacked Jews and eliminated them, though they were also Citizens of their countries. The Blackguards here are eliminating Hindus, who are not only citizens of this country but also form the unfortunate majority.)
What is good journalism --- both print and electronic --- about? On a working, finite level it is the effort to achieve illuminating candour in print and to strip away cant. In short, it is the pursuit of and the effort to state the Truth. The pursuit of the Truth and the articulation of it is the most delicate, hazardous, exacting and inexact of tasks. Consequently, no audience is more forgiving (I hope!) to the speaker who fails or stumbles in his own pursuit of it, the only failure that audience will never excuse in any speaker would be his failure even to try to tell the Truth, as he sees it, about his subject.
The double charge that I want to bring against the mafia of mass media in India can thus be stated:
"Firstly, its failure to inform the public better than it does is the evasion of its public responsibility.
Secondly, its failure to educate and elevate the public taste rather than following that taste like a blind, wallowing dinosaur is an abuse of its freedom."
Though I have not had the good fortune of meeting Swami Nityananda, yet I am quite moved and impressed by their Mission Statement which runs as follows:
The Nithyananda Mission is part of a world-wide movement for meditation and peace. The goal of Paramahamsa Nithyananda"s advent on planet earth is to spread the inner science of enlightenment by delivering physical health, mental wellness and spiritual awakening to all beings irrespective of their race, gender or nationality. To achieve this, Nithyananda Mission aims to initiate 100 million persons into the unique meditation Nithya Dhyaan and one hundred thousand persons to "living enlightenment".

Politics of appeasement

Bhardwaj blocks Bill banning cow slaughter
In line with the Congress’ old policy of kowtowing to Muslim sentiments and the butchers’ lobby, Karnataka Governor HR Bhardwaj has decided to reserve the Bill banning cow slaughter for the President’s consideration. The reason cited is that certain provisos of the proposed law have inter-State implications. Though passed by both Houses of the State legislature, the fate of the Bill is now dependent on Ms Pratibha Patil’s response, which is presumably shaped by her erstwhile party’s stance on the issue. And that is well known, given the Congress’s antipathy to banning cow slaughter. Though it has been in power at the Centre for the longest period of time, it has not bothered to bring about Central legislation in this regard.
In January this year, religious savants of all faiths, experts, organic farmers and social activists submitted to Ms Patil over eight crore signatures, collected during the 108-day Vishwa Mangal Gou Gram Yatra. The journey had begun from Kurukshetra on September 30 last year, and concluded in Nagpur on January 17, 2010. Their memorandum demanded enactment of a central law for cow protection. VHP president Ashok Singhal recalled that in 1952, anti-cow slaughter advocates had presented about two crore signatures to the then President Rajendra Prasad. What he failed to emphasise was that the campaign had not yielded the desired result. And no positive development has occurred now, with the Congress-led UPA Government unwilling to frame a central law, prohibiting cow slaughter.
It is worrisome that there has been concerted lobbying by politicos, traders and even a section of the media in Karnataka to scrap the Bill. Janata Dal (S) stalwart and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda claims that Mr Manmohan Singh, the present Prime Minister, agrees that the Bill is a bad law. But while it may affect the livelihood of butchers, leather workers, traders, and beef-sellers, who could easily be helped by the Government to take up other, less offensive work, it shows a commendable respect for milch animals, which are the staple of our predominantly agrarian economy. Religious sanctity aside, cows and, by extension, cattle are invaluable because they provide milk, dung and urine, used as fertilisers and even medicine, and also plough the fields. They preempt the need for costly agrochemicals in farming, as well as tractors. The worst reward for their efforts is to butcher them, thereby betraying the savagery of arid utilitarianism.
The Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill, 2010, which is meant to replace the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act of 1964, is different from the latter in important ways. The former covers “cattle”, defined as “cow, calf of a cow and bull, bullock, buffalo male or female and calf of she-buffalo”. The earlier law was against the slaughter of cows, calves of cows and calves of she-buffaloes. It sanctioned the slaughter of bulls, bullocks and buffaloes if they were over 12 years old, or of no use. The penalty for an offence is more severe in the new law. Violating the 1964 Act invited a jail sentence of six months. Under the proposed law, imprisonment extends up to seven years. This should certainly deter cattle smuggling, illegal slaughter and the like.
Is a cartel of beef-traders and compulsions of minorityism responsible for sacrificing the dominant community’s belief in the sanctity of cows on the anvil of commerce and politics? This issue has long been debated, as successive decades after Independence have seen the constitutional directive to ban cow slaughter being callously flouted. Article 48, ‘Organisation of agriculture and animal husbandry’, avers that “The State shall, in particular, take steps for prohibiting the slaughter of cows and calves and other milch animals”. But while most States have instituted laws against cow slaughter, the Centre has been notoriously callous in this regard. Communist-leaning West Bengal and Kerala have also been remiss.
So far as Muslims are concerned, cow slaughter is not a duty, enjoined by Islam. Historical annals relate attempts by Muslim rulers such as Mohammed Bin Qasim, Mughals and Nawab Hyder Ali of Mysore to prohibit such butchery in deference to the feelings of their subjects. In the present instance, Mr KN Anees Ulhaq, State convenor of Karnataka’s Muslim Rashtriya Manch, concedes that the Quran does not state whether people should eat beef or not, and that one should go with the majority opinion. But judging by its track record, the Congress clearly would beg to differ.

Political scenario in Tamilnadu
S.R.Rajagopal
(*Written well before the last Parliamentary election)(just for reading purpose now)
The cult of heroship has been practiced by the Indian politicians since late Indira Gandhi’s regime in centre and in Tamil Nadu by the Dravidian parties from C.N.Annadurai (Anna), E.V.Ramasamy Naicker (Periyar), M.Karunanidhi (Kalaighar), M.G.Ramachandran (MGR) to currently J.Jayalalitha (Puratchi Thalaivi). Even other small parties which breathe their air in the State have the same one man show of politics – Vaiko of MDMK and Maruthuvar Iyya of PMK for example. The good and evil for a large mass of people had mostly been decided by these heroes. None of the political parties has any worthwhile programme of action to stand out as a winning side. Rapidly changing political climate all over the country has also pinched the
Tamilnadu politics. In such a prevailing situation, people of Tamilnadu have been witnessing variety of sensitive happenings during this election season. Though these happenings are of ordinary nature for Indian politics, they are perceived to be significant because of impending polls to Parliament. One of such issues being blossomed day-by-day is about the matinee idol Vijaikant’s (Puratchi Kalaighar) DMDK in the State.
Vijaikant’s name attracted political circles when his cadres clashed with PMK years ago over naming of tamil films with English titles. Till that time, Vijaikant was not thought of as a force to reckon with by any politician. In the aftermath, Vijaikant had been dilly dallying with the idea of entering politics. At last the cat was out at Madurai when Vijaikant named his political party formally named as ‘Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam’ (DMDK). Vijaikant had decided to enter the political arena keeping in mind MGR who emerged as an unblemished political hero. Several other factors are also behind the issue for Vijaikant being seen as an incoming force in Tamilnadu politics (against the present government headed by the shakable chiefminister Karunanidi). Puratchi Thalaivi had witnessed all political volcanoes and typhoons during DMK rule and everyone guessed that her political career was sealed. Yet virtually no political forces could concretely do anything to isolate her and she came back to Fort St George with impressive majority in the 2001 election.
After having failed to tilt her with their unsuccessful attempts, opposition leaders (who are famous for giving press statements) have been trying to grab the Vijaikant factor vying each other to cash in on him to begin with BJP. Vijaikant on his part has this job made easy when he has attired that his party would contest the election on its own. Congress which lost its power to DMK way back in 1967 has never been a serious contender except being joking from time to time by whispering that “we will form Kamaraj rule” while in alliance either with DMK or ADMK (except winning a few seats at the mercy of kazhagams so far). Though DMK is billed with LTTE tag, Congress still inclines to contest the Loksabha election with them and won all seats, however, forgetting the brutal past . Congress’s relations with ADMK have been soar in recent times; however, Jayalalithaa quite recently has asked the Congress to re-think of their alliance with DMK. Therefore, both Congress and BJP necessarily to tilt towards either of Dravidian parties at the election time as they cannot stand on its own as their base level is uprooted.
However, BJP has bravely stepped in to fight alone in the battle along with unrecognizable small letter pad parties. Under the circumstances, Tamilnadu people are deliberately looking for some force to fight Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi for a change in governance at Delhi. It so happened that Vijaikant factor was quite accidental and handy to rumor mongers. All political parties had been ferociously trying to catch hold of Vijaikant on their side while BJP also wanted to grab Vijaikant’s projected popularity on its side to increase its strength in the State. Ultimately, it did not happen.
On this background, one should analyse the factors which make Vijaikant as a force to fight Jayalalitha or Karunanidhi in the ensuing assembly elections. Immatured political forces may indulge in spreading the illusory message that Vijaikant’s silver screen image could certainly down the sailing Karunanidhi’s ship or dragging the sunk Jayalalithaa’s ship ashore. One should understand the reality in Tamilnadu politics. Comparing Vijaikant (Black MGR as named by his fans) with MGR now is totally irrelevant as Vijaikant’s popularity is a projected one and it is far far behind the one that of MGR actually had. MGR had been in politics since long right from his infant stage of acting, though not actively. His pictures have been used as a media for popularizing the political messages of DMK to which he was attached. MGR’s turning to active politics happened by chance when DMK supreme Karunanidhi expelled MGR from DMK for his act of questioning Karunanidhi of misappropriation of funds. People who experienced, DMK’s miserable corrupt administration coupled with Indira Gandhi’s emergency, wanted a change at that time. State had only two major contenders for power at that time – DMK and Congress.
Congress was ruled out because of emergency excesses. MGR by then appeared and emerged as the only political saviour for all and people wanted a change and so gave chance instantly to MGR. People then were confident that MGR could give corruption free clean government. Vijaikant’s emergence now is in different environment. We have now variety of political forces with several factions within – PMK, MDMK, BJP, DMK and ADMK. Opponents of Karunanidhi have been under the impression that they can throw DMK alliance with Vijaikant’s blessings. Main contention of opposition parties for declaring war against Karunanidhi is that his government is controlled by his corruptive family members. Whoever tells this as reason, had been once part of the same government.
Therefore, their contention of fighting corruptive DMK government becomes meaningless. Secondly they talk of goondaism. This has become a way of life in Indian politics and ADMK is no exception. During DMK regime, LTTE practiced bomb culture freely by massacring their opponents in our soil and were allowed to escape unhurt. To top it all, Rajiv Gandhi was gorgeously assassinated in our soil. Beant Sing, Punjab Chief Minister was blasted to pieces at his office where Congress was ruling the State. These are mentioned not to justify the mis-governance of DMK but to ask the opponents of DMK with what honesty and record of efficient performance, they want to prop up Vijaikant to fight corrupt government of either DMK or ADMK, after having been failed themselves.
MGR imaginatively attracted rural masses and they followed him enmass. However in the case of Vijaikant, he does not seem to be having similar charisma. Political forces momentarily take a chance by instigating Vijaikant in their way. Realistically speaking, they do not bother about corruption or bad governance. When they are not able to stand on their own for survival, they look for somebody to take them on and that entity readily available for them now is Vijaikant. One thing is certain as to what these virulent forces want from Vijaikant. They want power through him for their very survival only and not for fighting corruption and evil forces.
It is not uncommon for any political leader to tell the people before polls that he would give a clean government. After polls, once they get into power by chance, they do all nonsense in reverse direction. Therefore, had Vijaikant chosen to support any particular political force, it would not have given any expected yields both to aligned forces and people who support them. At last, we know at least now that Vijaikant would not be the member of the same group as he has not extended his hands to any political force but to fight alone. By the time of writing this piece, Vijaikant has been virulently touring the State with DMDK cab by saying that he is going to contest the polls on his own without any alliance. This goes to mean that Vijaikant does not support any party for the present. At the same time, it is reported that behind the scene work has been on to push him in DMK-Congress alliance.
To conclude, one may find that whoever hopes on Vijaikant effect, they do so only for their selfish flourishment and not for fighting evils and misdeeds of the present government. People shall in course of time differentiate the colour they adorn. People live on hopes. Let us at least hope for better tomorrow. It remains to be seen whether Vijaikant effect (with his clean hands) could make an inroad into the only powerful and indomitable Purathcithalaivi and Kalaizhar’s kingdom or not. Presently it seems only DMK and Congress are worrying about vote split by DMDK. Vijaikant effect would seem to be only an imagination till we come to know the results of the poll!
