Boot lethargy, boost energy

Tasting success is the perfect armoury to fight laziness. Boost may enhance Sachin's energy, but one has to boost energy from within to overcome lethargy.

BIRDS OF THE SAME FEATHER FLOCK TOGETHER, ALWAYS!:
Laziness can catch anybody.

A PERSON went to a doctor and complained that he is neither interested nor able to work on anything and wanted to undergo a check-up. After thorough investigation the doctor said, "Well! You do not have any complications. You are just lazy. That's all". The patient was silent for a moment and said, "It's ok doctor. But what is the medical term for it, so to tell my wife."

This appears to be a joke but laziness has no meaning in psychiatry or medical dictionaries. It can be defined as a `disgusting comfort'. It has a temporarily soothing effect to be repented and hated afterwards.

Two of a kind

There are two different kinds of laziness. Physical tiredness is the laziness of body comfort orientation. We just try to stay comfortable and cosy. On the other hand, mental laziness is "loss of heart, a kind of deep discouragement, a feeling of giving up on us, of hopelessness." We know that we are resigning to vacuum. We have guilt and a sinking feeling but can't help. Some other times, in our bitterness, we convince ourselves with our rigid stand of "couldn't care less."

What to do?

Know the reason for your laziness. Is it physical (diabetic etc) or mental? To overcome your mental lethargy, you have to take interest in your job. Nobody can help you if you are not interested in your job. "Having interest in a final outcome" is different from "having interest on the job".

To become a doctor is interest but studying medicine is the job. First develop good frame of mind, set-up, determination and willingness to do job, and create a congenial atmosphere. Don't get depressed. Believe that when you can remember Aarthi Agarwal, you can also remember Archimedes principle.

Stay with people who are achievers. Lazy people make friends with more lazy people. Watch people engrossed in the same job that you are doing and validate from where they are getting the inspiration.

Let us suppose a student gets first mark. He tries to keep his rank because he tasted the

pleasantness of compliments from teachers and relatives. He enjoys the silent admiration of his parents and `being-proud' feeling of them because of him. He takes pleasure in neighbouring parents quoting him as a role model to their children. He enjoys his position of being envious to his classmates. There is a continuous inflow of mental energy due to these factors.

Fight it out

Tasting the success is the best weapon to fight laziness. Don't confuse fatigue with boredom. Sure we get tired, but not because our body and mind wants to take rest, but we are bored with the subject. You may push away a textbook with the comment, "I'm exhausted! I can't read another word," then casually pick up a magazine or newspaper. Obviously, we have confused fatigue with boredom. Change from reading to writing or to a computer. This is how I work.

Physical stress:

To fight physical stress and fatigue, you should keep your

sensory organs always in pleasant mood.

Eyes: Keep as much green shade as possible in your study/working room. If possible, fill your balcony with flowerpots. An aquarium also gives a feeling of relaxing. Flickering light is a stress to your eyes. Sleep well. Deep sleep is different from long sleep.

Aroma: According to a highly acknowledged scientific book, "Mind ways to Health", humans can distinguish ten thousand different odours and because the part of the brain that analyses odours is intimately connected to emotional centres of the cortex, smell can really affect the way we feel. Aromas can distract the mind from unpleasant thoughts. Peppermint has long been valued as an aid to clear thinking and recent research suggests that a whiff of mint can motivate people before exercise.

Food: Chilly pepper and other spices produce a feeling of pleasurable sensory stimulation. Chocolate stimulates Serotionin in the brain bringing pleasant feeling. On the negative side, `Capsaicin' the chemical in chilly pepper interferes with the nerves that send `feeling full' messages to the brain. Excessive fats in chocolates, pizzas and cool drinks cause a sleepy feeling, due to the diversion of blood and oxygen away from the brain to the digestive areas.

Boost may enhance Sachin Tendulkar's energies, but basically one has to boost his energies from within himself and with regular exercise, walk, good food habits and pleasant surroundings. Laziness is nothing more than the habit of resting before you get tired.
